Stone Pavilion.

Stone Pavilion is a considered restoration and contemporary addition to a heritage home in the Adelaide Hills, where architecture and landscape are carefully reconnected through a series of restrained interventions.

Set within an established garden, the project preserves the character of the original stone residence while adapting it for contemporary living.

Rather than competing with the existing home, the new pavilion is conceived as a quiet companion. Drawing from the proportions of the original gable, it maintains the familiar scale and silhouette of the house while introducing light-filled living spaces that open generously to the surrounding landscape.

Large expanses of glazing dissolve the boundary between inside and out, framing seasonal garden views and strengthening the home’s connection to place.

A restrained palette of exposed stone, natural timber and finely detailed steel grounds the architecture within its Adelaide Hills setting. Timber-lined ceilings introduce warmth and tactility, while carefully restored stonework reveals the craftsmanship of the original home, allowing its history to remain legible.

Defined as much by what has been retained as what has been added, Stone Pavilion demonstrates the value of working with an existing building rather than against it. The result is a home that balances heritage with contemporary living, creating spaces that feel calm, enduring and deeply connected to both their landscape and the memories embedded within them
