Urban Habitats were engaged as the builder with one of our close industry colleagues to undertake these works to a dilapidated character home and the results are outstanding, reflected by the home winning a state award with the Master Builders Association.
This classic 1920’s sandstone villa underwent minor demolition and modernising to the existing footprint and a substantial extension to the rear of the property to create additional floor space to accommodate the need for a large family bathroom together with the open plan living, dining and kitchen areas.
The rejuvenated family bathroom maintains its traditional charm and given a contemporary mix of fixtures of open large frameless walk in open shower, recessed tiled shelf, generous overhead mirrored shaving cabinets and complimented with the high quality of sanitary-ware and accessories. As you enter into the new extension you are greeted with abundance of natural light provided from the large commercial design size windows and Eco Frame sliding doors. The timeless appeal flows into the heart of the home with the Kitchen with the clever use of subway tiles and the beautiful traditional Smeg standalone cooker. Generous storage is provided by the butler’s pantry. Warmth is created from the beautiful recycled timber featured in the island tops and side and built in shelves, which also flows into the custom cabinetry in the living area and subtle study.
The lower ceiling height over the kitchen and dining creates a level of intimacy whilst cleverly concealing the reverse cycle air-conditioning unit and pipes. The practical use of polished concrete flooring confirms the durability but casual look in the high traffic areas of the Living / Dining Room.
