The rear of the property was demolished together with the original garage to make way for a discreet contemporary two-storey extension from the front road side providing a functional floor plan and adequate garaging. Building on the boundary at all 3 sides to the rear provided significant challenges but maximised use of the available floor space.
The ground floor outdoor terrace is understated with off-form an BBQ table and concrete seating all round. The ‘Old Red Brick’ masonry walls provide a natural warmth and traditional element to this intimate and private entertaining area.
The quality of workmanship required to execute a new contemporary addition sympathetically to a traditional turn of the century home is exceptional. Urban Habitats considered every detail in both building styles, and the effort is clearly evident in the finished home. This is born from attention to detail commencing at the concept drawing stage and continuing through to and even during construction.
Other significant inclusions to the scope include the re-roofing, repairs to existing bluestone footings and internal cellar, re-pointing of face stone work as well as all paving and landscaping, all of which were undertaken with the same attention to detail and focused approach.
We were already familiar with Urban Habitats’ work so our expectations were high. However, the quality of the design and workmanship in the renovation even exceeded what we imagined. The feedback that we have received from friends and family is so complimentary that it is easy to be very proud of our new home. Thank you to Urban Habitats for achieving such an excellent outcome!
